Definition of Certified Organic:

A farm operation in the United States that is certified organic means the business has been inspected and found to produce products that are free of synthetic additives like chemical pesticides & fertilizers and do not use GMO (genetically modified organism) seeds.

A GMO, or genetically modified organism, is a plant, animal, microorganism or other organism whose genetic makeup has been modified in a laboratory using genetic engineering or transgenic technology.

According to the USDA, the goal of organic foods and organic farming is to “integrate cultural, biological, and mechanical practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity.“
